School Profile

Freese Elementary Arts and Culture Magnet school provides a focus on learning through on-campus and community arts and cultural opportunities. In-class residencies in theatre, music, dance and visual arts, field trips, assemblies, and family workshops all enhance ways of learning and expand means of expression. All students create plays, poetry, and musical compositions — sharing their learning as storytellers, actors, and puppeteers.

Here are some special areas of emphasis at Freese for the 2009-10 school year:

*Freese Power Hour - The Power Hour is dedicated to accelerating reading among all students at Freese.  Taking place from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. daily, all students will participate in Small Group Reading instruction and other activities that enhance reading during the Power Hour.

*Scholastic Reading Counts Goal:  100,000,000 Words! - That's right.  Collectively, our students will work to read one hundred million words this year.  Upon meeting the goal by May 28, 2010, students will have a reading parade and get a one hour recess for the whole school.

*Nearly 30 Partners-in-Education - Over the years, Freese has established numerous partnerships that enhance our magnet program and our school.  Partners bring a variety of rich experiences to our students both on campus and off.  Our partners are helping us keep arts and culture alive and thriving for our students.
